I left school after class-5 to shoulder the burden of family responsibilities. Over the years, I drifted around different regions of Bangladesh, taking up various jobs that suited my interest and monetary needs. After 1977, I moved to Pabna and got employed in a workshop in the Light Engineering sector. Despite frequent job switches, I found my job at the workshop quite interesting. And so, for the next three years, I diligently worked to develop my skills and learn all that I could about this particular field.
Due to financial constraints and my lack of confidence, I had never entertained the thought of owning a business. I was content with playing on the safe side and continuing life as it is. However, my father, who had always envisioned great things for his children, never allowed me to be complacent about my future. Because of his consistent urging and unwavering support, I could finally muster the courage to create my own company.
Whatever reservations I had about starting a business faded away when I saw the outpour of love and support from my friends and family. Everyone chipped in with their funds and resources. And father went as far as pouring his entire retirement savings into the new venture. And thus, with high hopes and countless dreams, Bhai Bhai Engineering Workshop began its journey at Nilphamari in 1980.
Our workshop primarily deals with producing and repairing agricultural machines. The most popular items include paper-making machines, automatic flour mill machines, and blending machines. We have also started supplying bonemeal and blending machines to the ceramic industry. Despite stiff competition from imports from countries like China, Italy, and India, we have sold our machinery to several ceramic factories. In time with better promotion and development, we can capture a larger share of this booming market.
Before the covid-19 pandemic, our business operations were running quite smoothly. Seeing the stable cash flows and monthly profits, I had started planning for future expansion and even went looking for suitable channels for export. Unfortunately, things suddenly went downhill within 2020 as the economic crisis deepened across the nation. Many of our current customers could not afford to make payments, and we were hardly getting any new orders. This disruption in the revenue stream and the need to pay for fixed expenses caused us to incur heavy losses. We have managed to somehow survive through this ordeal with financial support from loved ones. But the firm still needs considerable time for a full recovery.
I got acquainted with LightCastle Partners when they visited our factory and offered to provide us with training secessions on business development. By collaborating with them and the B-skillful initiative, I have gained a lot of knowledge on business strategies and processes to implement in my company and improve margins. Ten of our factory workers have also received skills-based training, which has improved their overall efficiency in operations. I hope these new developments can lead our business to flourish again and outperform any rivals.
